In Loving Memory of Nicholas Almeida and Elizabeth Almeida

The Fall River community is grieving after the heartbreaking and tragic loss of Nicholas Almeida, 25, and his beloved mother, Elizabeth Almeida, 54, whose lives were taken in a fatal shooting on the evening of January 30, 2026. What should have been an ordinary night turned into a devastating tragedy that has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow and disbelief.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, Fall River Police responded to a 911 call around 8:05 p.m. at a residence on Barnes Street. When officers arrived, they found Nicholas and Elizabeth suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, both were pronounced deceased. Their untimely passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

Nicholas Almeida was a young man with his whole life ahead of him. At just 25 years old, he was someone many described as kind-hearted, full of potential, and deeply connected to his family. A son, a friend, and a cherished presence in his community, Nicholas was known for his warmth, laughter, and the love he showed to those around him. His life was a testament to youth, hope, and the promise of a future that was tragically cut short.

Elizabeth Almeida, a devoted mother, was the heart and strength of her family. At 54 years old, she had spent her life nurturing, supporting, and loving her son. She was a woman of resilience and compassion, someone who carried the responsibilities of motherhood with grace and determination. Her love for Nicholas was evident in everything she did, and the bond they shared was one that reflected deep care and connection. To her family and friends, Elizabeth was more than a mother—she was a source of comfort, guidance, and unwavering love.

The tragedy is compounded by the fact that the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Arlington Cole, was in a dating relationship with Elizabeth Almeida. He was located at the scene with a firearm and has been charged with two counts of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon causing Serious Bodily Injury. As the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office continues to investigate alongside the Fall River Police Department, the community waits for justice while mourning the loss of two innocent lives.

This devastating event is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly everything can change. It has shaken Fall River and touched many beyond the city, as people come together in grief, solidarity, and remembrance. Vigils, prayers, and messages of condolences continue to pour in, reflecting the impact Nicholas and Elizabeth had on those around them.

In remembering Nicholas Almeida and Elizabeth Almeida, we honor their lives, their love, and the memories they leave behind. May Nicholas be remembered for his bright spirit and the dreams he carried, and may Elizabeth be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the unconditional love she gave as a mother. Their lives mattered. Their memories will endure. And their legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Rest in eternal peace, Nicholas and Elizabeth. You will never be forgotten.
