With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we remember and honor the life of Jose Rodriguez Jaquez, a beloved son, family member, friend, and community member whose life was tragically taken on the night of Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in Mesquite. Jose was only 38 years old, and his sudden passing has left an indescribable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
On that evening, at approximately 9:51 p.m., Mesquite Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Rodeo Center Boulevard after 9-1-1 callers reported a man lying in a business parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers arrived quickly and rendered aid, doing everything possible to save his life. Jose was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing, but the pain of his loss is already deeply felt by his family, friends, and the entire Mesquite community.
Jose Rodriguez Jaquez was more than just a name in a report or a victim in a tragic event—he was a man full of life, dreams, and compassion. Those who knew him describe him as kind-hearted, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand. He had a warm smile that could light up a room and a generous spirit that made others feel seen, heard, and valued. Jose was the kind of person who believed in family, loyalty, and standing by the people he loved.
He cherished his family deeply, finding joy in the simple moments—shared meals, laughter, conversations, and time spent together. Jose’s presence brought comfort and strength to those around him. He had a way of making others feel safe and cared for, and his absence is felt in the quiet moments where his voice, his laughter, and his guidance once were.
In his community, Jose was known as someone who worked hard to build a better life, someone who carried hope and resilience even in the face of challenges. He dreamed of a future filled with peace, stability, and happiness. Though his journey was cut short, the impact he made during his time here will not be forgotten. His story, his love, and his legacy will live on through the people whose lives he touched.
