LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — The Larimer County community is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Lil Cobey, who was killed in a devastating wrong-way collision on US 287 early Saturday morning. The crash, which occurred around 4:47 a.m. near mile marker 355, also left another young driver, 20-year-old Julie Garcia, fighting for her life after suffering serious injuries.

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the crash involved a semi-truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, which collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact. Emergency responders extricated the Toyota’s driver, but tragically, Lil Cobey, a passenger in the vehicle, was trapped and succumbed to the crash.

Authorities have identified the semi driver as 24-year-old David Perez Carillo from New York. He has been arrested and faces multiple serious charges, including vehicular homicide—reckless, vehicular assault—reckless, and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway. The circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving remain under investigation.

Lil Cobey’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life. Friends, family, and the community remember him as a bright and promising young man whose life was abruptly and tragically cut short.
