Edward Conlin Lee Arrested; CPD reports stabbing near UVA grounds was not a random attack

Charlottesville, Virginia After a stabbing incident near the University of Virginia (UVA) on Thursday night, a 44-year-old guy is in police arrest and another person is in critical condition.

The suspect has been identified by the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) as Edward Conlin Lee, a resident of Charlottesville who is accused of malicious injury in relation to the crime.

Although neither Lee nor the victim have any known ties to UVA, authorities verified that they were friends.

The stabbing reportedly stemmed from an altercation between Lee and the victim at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

Following the dispute, the victim fled the scene and was later found one block away with stab wounds to the torso.

Emergency responders transported the victim to UVA Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition as of Thursday night.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., UVA issued an emergency alert warning students and faculty of an active attacker armed with a knife near 100 Emmet Street, across from Alumni Hall.

Shortly after, the university followed up with a shelter-in-place order as law enforcement searched for the suspect.

By 6:00 p.m., police located Lee near Stribling Avenue, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The Charlottesville Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. No further details regarding the suspect’s motive or additional charges have been released at this time.

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Charlottesville Police Department.

This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
