In Loving Memory of Adam Arevalo and Cecil Chandler IV
On February 7, 2026, the Reno County community was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy that unfolded on K14 Highway, just north of U.S. 50. What began as an ordinary morning quickly turned into a devastating loss that claimed the lives of two individuals and left another seriously injured. The fatal two-vehicle crash serves as a solemn reminder of how fragile life can be and how deeply a single moment can impact families, friends, and an entire community.
According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, a southbound Chevy Malibu crossed the center line for reasons still unknown while traveling over the bridge at Blanchard Avenue. In an instant, it collided head-on with a northbound Jeep Liberty. The violent impact of the crash changed lives forever.
Adam Arevalo, 59 years old, of Hutchinson, was the driver of the Jeep Liberty. Despite efforts to save him, Adam succumbed to his injuries after being transported for emergency medical care. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Adam was more than a name in a report—he was a father, a friend, a neighbor, and a member of the Hutchinson community whose life and presence mattered. His story, his laughter, his experiences, and his contributions will be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Cecil Chandler IV, 27 years old, also of Hutchinson, was the driver of the Chevy Malibu and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services. Cecil’s life was cut tragically short, leaving behind dreams unfinished and memories that will now be cherished with bittersweet sorrow. At just 27, he had a lifetime ahead of him—plans, aspirations, and moments that will now live on only in the hearts and memories of his loved ones.
A passenger in the Malibu, Shyann Cullison, 19 years old, was seriously injured and continues to receive medical care. Our thoughts and prayers extend to her and her family, hoping for strength, healing, and comfort during this difficult time.
This tragedy brought together multiple agencies in a coordinated response, including the South Hutchinson Police Department, Buhler Police Department, Hutchinson Police Department, Hutchinson Fire Department, Reno County EMS, Eagle Med, and Reno County 911 Emergency Communications. Their swift actions and dedication reflect the compassion and professionalism of those who serve the community in times of crisis. We extend sincere appreciation to all first responders who worked tirelessly at the scene, managing a complex and emotional situation with care and respect.
As the investigation continues, many questions remain unanswered. Authorities are working diligently to determine the contributing factors, including speed, impairment, weather, and road conditions. For now, the community is left with grief, reflection, and a shared sense of loss.
In loving memory, we honor Adam Arevalo and Cecil Chandler IV—not just for the circumstances of their passing, but for the lives they lived, the people they loved, and the memories they created. May their families find comfort in cherished memories, and may the community hold them in collective remembrance and compassion.
May their souls rest in peace, and may their loved ones find strength in the days ahead.
