Brian Jones Death; Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigating fatal shooting at Plantation Park in Tampa

Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting at Plantation Park in Tampa, Florida.

According to an HCSO media release, the 911 Dispatch Center received a call about shots being fired at the park around 7:24 p.m. on March 4, 2025.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Authorities say 19-year-old Brian Jones succumbed to his injuries. The second victim is in stable condition.

HCSO says a fight broke out during a basketball game and the fight led to the shooting.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this. Our detectives are doing everything they can to find out who is responsible for this heinous crime.”
