Alyssa Wehmeyer Arrested; Woman facing child abuse charge after toddler dies
A Cape Girardeau woman is charged with felony abuse in the death of her young child.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Alyssa Wehmeyer is currently being held in the Scott County Jail on a $100,000, cash-only bond for one count of abuse or neglect of a child – resulting in death.
This charge is the result of an investigation conducted by the Troop E Criminal Investigations Unit of MSHP’s Division of Drug and Crime Control. The Cape Girardeau Police Department requested that MSHP look into the suspicious death on March 3.
According to court records, Wehmeyer is accused of not feeding her one-year-old child for more than 36 hours. The documents also indicate Wehmeyer told police she left the child in its crib unattended for nearly 19 hours.
Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child – Resulting In Death Under Sec. 568.060.5(2) – No Sexual Contact { Felony A RSMo: 568.060 }
$100,000 cash bond signed by Judge Miller. It should be NO bond.
Officers were contacted regarding the death of a child. An autopsy was conducted on the child finding the child dehydrated and little evidence of food in the stomach. This child also had severe blisters on the buttocks from diaper rash.
After speaking to Wehmeyer, it was determined at least 19 hours had passed without a diaper change. The child had not eaten in over 36 hours. The child had been left unattended in a crib for over 19 hours. Wehmeyer admitted she contacted no medical profession about her child’s severe diaper rash nor malnutrition.
She is being held in the Scott County jail.
Where was Wehmeyer employed? She was a jailer for Cape PD which is probably why they put her in Scott County. She does not deserve to be bonded out.
