Adam Montoya Charged; Arizona man charged of fatally shooting his 1-year-old daughter in front of girl’s mother
An Arizona grand jury has indicted a man in the fatal shooting of his 1-year-old daughter, and prosecutors claim he used an AR-style gun in front of the girl’s mother.
Adam Joseph Montoya, 27, was indicted earlier this month on two felony counts: second-degree murder and child abuse. Montoya has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Navajo County Public Defender’s Office, which represents Montoya, declined to comment Monday.
The incident took place Feb. 3 at a residence in Show Low, a small mountainous village about 180 miles northeast of Phoenix, the Navajo County Attorney’s Office stated in a statement.
Emergency responders took the 13-month-old baby to a medical center in Show Low where she was pronounced dead, prosecutors said. Both the Navajo County Attorney’s Office and Show Low police declined to comment further on the case.
