WICHITA POLICE ARREST FATHER FOLLOWING SHOOTING DEATH OF 1 YEAR OLD
A man has been taken into custody by the Wichita Police Department after his one-year-old daughter was shot and killed inside a house in the 2200 block of S. Santa Fe. Officers were called to the scene of a shooting at the residence at around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 1-year-old girl with an upper-body gunshot wound. After calling for emergency medical assistance, the infant was taken to a local hospital, where medical personnel declared her dead at 9:27 p.m.
After an inquiry, the father of the child, a guy from Wichita, was taken into custody on suspicion of felony murder, aggravated child endangerment, and felon in possession of a handgun.
Another child who was in the home during the incident was placed in Police Protective Custody. The child’s
mother was interviewed and subsequently released.
Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan expressed his condolences, stating:
“The heartbreaking loss of this precious 1 year old child is truly devastating. No family should ever have to
experience such a profound tragedy. Our hearts and prayers go out to those who loved her and are affected during this incredibly difficult time. We remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
WPD is choosing not to release the victim’s name at this time.
