Sheriff Michael A. Helmig reports that upon completion of a traffic stop, Deputy Jacob Southworth was struck by the passenger side mirror of a passing truck while walking back to his cruiser on southbound I-71 at the 72 mile-marker.

The utility truck fled and continued south on I-71 towards Gallatin County.
