44yo Richard Hudson II, 7yo Misty Schaubhut and 46yo Quiana Smith Charged; THREE ST. CHARLES PARISH PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM EMPLOYEES ARRESTED

On Friday, February 28, 2025, detectives with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office were informed by St. Charles Parish School System Officials that they had received a complaint that a student may have been harmed by employees at R.J. Vial Elementary School in Paradis, Louisiana.

Detectives learned that on February 25, 2025, the student’s mother noticed unusual bruising to the child’s right bicep, left chest area, and back near the left shoulder blade. The mother became concerned and inquired with the school to see if any unusual incidents during the school day would have caused the bruising. School administrators reviewed all available video footage as well as a log of the student’s daily activities to determine how the student may have received the bruises.

After a review of available video footage, detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants for the three school system employees as follows:

Richard Hudson, II (44), teacher, for one (1) count of Cruelty to Juveniles, a felony, Quiana Smith (46), para-educator, for one (1) count of Cruelty to Juveniles, a felony, and Misty Schaubhut (47), substitute teacher, for one (1) count of Failure to Report Abuse, a misdemeanor.

Sheriff Champagne would like to recognize Superintendent Oertling and his staff for their partnership and diligence in recognizing the seriousness of this matter and expeditiously notifying our office.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
