In Loving Memory of Vasshon Haywood
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we remember Vasshon Haywood, a 48-year-old man whose life was tragically cut short following a shooting on February 7 in Columbia. His passing has left a painful void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him, and his loss is deeply felt across the community.
On the evening of February 7, Columbia Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of North Garth Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Vasshon suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Authorities have since arrested Michael Graham, 66, in connection with the incident, and he faces multiple charges including second-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, stealing, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence. The investigation remains ongoing as the community seeks answers and justice.
Vasshon Haywood was more than a victim of violence—he was a son, a friend, a neighbor, and a human being whose life mattered. He carried stories, memories, and experiences that shaped who he was and how he impacted others. His presence brought meaning to those around him, and his absence now leaves behind sorrow and unanswered questions.
The loss of Vasshon reminds us of the devastating impact of violence and how it tears through families and communities, leaving grief in its wake. Every life taken too soon is a reminder of the fragility of human existence and the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and justice.
As his loved ones mourn, may they find comfort in the memories they shared, the laughter, the conversations, and the moments that defined Vasshon’s life. May his memory live on through the people who loved him, and may his story inspire reflection, peace, and hope for a safer and kinder world.
Rest in peace, Vasshon Haywood.
You will not be forgotten.
May your soul find eternal peace, and may your family and friends find strength and healing during this difficult time.
