HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Harrisburg community is mourning the loss of Romeo Mason Fleck, a young soldier from their city, following a tragic car accident in North Carolina over the weekend that claimed three lives. The fatal crash, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, also took the lives of Charles Jackson, 21, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and William T. Underwood, 28, of Sanford, North Carolina.
According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 3:36 a.m. on NC-87 near Olivia Road in Harnett County, North Carolina. A Toyota Camry carrying three Fort Bragg soldiers crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Chevrolet. Romeo Fleck, 22, was driving the Camry at the time, with Charles Jackson riding as a back-seat passenger. Both soldiers were pronounced dead at the scene. Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet, William T. Underwood, also died in the crash.
A 20-year-old front-seat passenger in the Camry survived but sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized. Authorities have not released further details about the passenger’s condition.
