The Monroe County community is mourning the tragic loss of Rhonda L. Bartnik, 60, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, who passed away following a devastating traffic crash on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The fatal collision occurred on northbound US-23, south of Sterns Road, in Whiteford Township, leaving a community in shock and sorrow.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the preliminary investigation revealed that Rhonda Bartnik was traveling southbound when her blue 2017 Ford Escape entered the northbound lanes and struck a gray 2023 Ford F-150 head-on. The F-150 was operated by 18-year-old Calvin A. Campbell of Dundee, Michigan, with a 17-year-old female passenger in the front seat. All occupants were wearing safety belts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles upon impact.
Emergency responders, including members of the Whiteford Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit, responded promptly. Despite the swift and valiant efforts of first responders, Ms. Bartnik was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two young occupants of the F-150 were transported to Toledo ProMedica Hospital with serious injuries, and their condition is being closely monitored. Authorities have noted that careless driving was a contributing factor in this tragic incident.
