In Loving Memory of Kalind Myles Freeman

The community of Hocking County, Ohio is grieving the heartbreaking loss of a young life taken far too soon. Kalind Myles Freeman, a 19-year-old resident of Logan, tragically passed away Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle crash on State Route 664. His sudden departure has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow, struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone so young and full of promise.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:38 a.m. as Kalind was traveling northbound on SR-664 in his 2001 Dodge Ram. Authorities reported that his pickup truck skidded on black ice, causing him to lose control. The vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned in Marion Township.

Kalind was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hocking County Coroner’s Office. Emergency responders from the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Logan Fire Department, Marion Township Fire Department, Hocking County EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation worked together at the scene, doing all they could in response to the tragic incident.

Investigators later determined that the vehicle’s safety belts were not functioning. In the wake of this loss, the Highway Patrol emphasized the critical importance of seatbelts, calling them “the single most effective piece of safety equipment in your vehicle.” It is a sobering reminder of how quickly circumstances can change and how vital safety measures are, especially during hazardous winter driving conditions.

A Young Life Filled with Promise

At just 19 years old, Kalind stood at the threshold of adulthood, with dreams waiting to be pursued and milestones yet to be reached. He was more than a headline or a statistic — he was a son, a friend, a classmate, and a valued member of his community.

Those who knew Kalind remember his youthful energy, his kindness, and the quiet strength he carried. He was someone who showed up for others — dependable, genuine, and sincere. His presence brought comfort to friends and pride to his family. Whether through shared laughter, meaningful conversations, or simple everyday moments, Kalind made an impact on the people around him.
