According to the Illinois State Police, the incident occurred late Sunday night along the northbound ramp to 147th Street. Troopers initially responded to reports of a hit-and-run involving a person and an abandoned Chevy Tahoe. After further investigation, authorities determined that the individual found at the scene was the driver of the vehicle, who is believed to have been ejected after the vehicle struck a wall. Despite emergency response efforts, Jerome was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic lanes were closed during the investigation and reopened shortly before 4 a.m. Monday. No additional details have been released at this time.
