James, 43, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while traveling on Illinois State Highway 37 near Ewing Road in Franklin County.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:28 p.m., and emergency responders from the Ewing Northern Fire Department and AMR Ambulance arrived promptly at the scene. James was found with major injuries and was initially transported to Franklin Hospital before being transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving family, friends, and the Carmi community in deep mourning.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the driver and a passenger in the vehicle involved were unharmed, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing. The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting in the investigation, though no further details about the cause of the accident have been released.
