In Loving Memory of Cody Clark

In Loving Memory of Cody Clark

On the afternoon of February 14, 2026, a tragic accident on State Road 9 forever changed the lives of many in Greenfield and throughout Hancock County. At approximately 1:40 p.m., deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Greenfield Police Department responded to a devastating head-on collision near 3700 N. State Road 9.

The crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions — a 2019 Ford Fusion driven by 32-year-old Cody Clark of Greenfield, and a 2013 Cadillac Escalade driven by 45-year-old Adam Hunt, also of Greenfield. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford crossed the center line into the southbound lane, striking the Cadillac head-on.

Cody Clark was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the sole occupant of his vehicle. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community in deep sorrow.

Cody was more than a name in a report. He was a son, a friend, a neighbor — someone whose life, though tragically cut short, mattered deeply to those who knew and loved him. At 32 years old, he had built memories, relationships, and dreams that will now live on in the hearts of others. Those who knew Cody describe him as someone with a familiar smile, a steady presence, and a spirit that reflected both strength and vulnerability.

Valentine’s Day is meant to be a day of love and togetherness. Instead, for Cody’s family, it will forever be remembered as the day they lost someone irreplaceable. The weight of sudden loss is immeasurable. There are no words that can truly soften the pain of such a tragedy, but there is comfort in remembering the moments shared, the laughter exchanged, and the love that will never fade.

The severity of the crash required the response of the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT). State Road 9 was closed for an extended period as investigators worked carefully and thoroughly at the scene. Numerous agencies assisted, including local police departments, fire territories, emergency medical teams, the Hancock County Coroner’s Office, and the Hancock County 911 Center — a reminder of the coordinated effort that follows such heartbreaking events.

Mr. Adam Hunt was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His wife was treated at the scene, and their four young children were transported to St. Vincent and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital for evaluation. All occupants of the Cadillac were properly restrained. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.

In the midst of these details, it is important to pause and reflect not just on how Cody left this world, but on how he lived in it. His life, though 32 years may feel far too short, was filled with experiences that shaped him and those around him. Every shared conversation, every act of kindness, every ordinary day that now feels extraordinary — these are the pieces of him that remain.

Tragedies like this remind us of life’s fragility. They urge us to hold our loved ones a little closer, to speak words of care more freely, and to move through our days with greater awareness and compassion.

As the Greenfield community grieves, may we remember Cody Clark not solely for the circumstances of his passing, but for the life he lived. May his family find strength in one another, comfort in cherished memories, and support from a community that stands with them in mourning.

Though gone too soon, Cody’s memory will endure in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones be surrounded by grace and healing in the difficult days ahead.
