In Loving Memory of Trey Johnson
LaPlace, LA – The St. John the Baptist Parish community is mourning the tragic loss of Trey Johnson, 32, a beloved member of LaPlace, who was fatally shot in the early hours of Sunday, February 15, 2026. Johnson’s life was cut short in a violent act that has left friends, family, and neighbors heartbroken.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at 12:45 a.m. on the 1900 block of North Sugar Ridge Drive after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Ochsner Medical Complex in LaPlace, where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead. A second victim, a 39-year-old man, was also shot and transported to Ochsner by private vehicle, surviving the incident.
The investigation quickly identified Andrew Brown, 33, also of LaPlace, as the suspect in this tragic event. Brown was arrested later that same day at approximately 9:30 p.m. and charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He is currently held in the parish jail with a bond set at $1.25 million.
Trey Johnson is remembered by those who knew him as a vibrant, caring, and devoted individual. Friends describe him as someone who brought laughter and warmth to any room he entered, a loyal friend, and a loving presence in his community. His sudden passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know him.
