In Loving Memory of Tyler Dukes

RIPLEY COUNTY, Ind. — The community is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Tyler Dukes, a 37-year-old resident of Madison, Indiana, who lost his life in a devastating two-vehicle crash in western Ripley County on Sunday afternoon. Dukes’ passing leaves family, friends, and the wider Jefferson County community in profound grief.

The fatal accident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. on US 50 at County Road 600 West, near Holton. Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial motor vehicle. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Dukes’ vehicle, a 2008 Mercury Mariner, overturned in the roadway, while the commercial truck, a 2022 Volvo pulling a trailer, had overturned off the north side of the road.

Tragically, Tyler Dukes sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the commercial truck, Richard Murray, 26, from Spring Hill, Florida, was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Indiana State Police-Versailles District Crash Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that Dukes’ vehicle crossed the centerline for reasons still under investigation, resulting in a nearly head-on collision with Murray’s truck in the westbound lane. Toxicology tests for both drivers are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
