BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Town of Batavia is mourning the loss of Thomas J. Luby, 46, who tragically passed away following a car crash on February 12, 2026. The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at the intersection of West Main Street and Kelsey Road, where Mr. Luby was involved in a collision that ultimately claimed his life.
According to the New York State Police, Mr. Luby was driving a 1983 Mercury Marquis eastbound on West Main Street when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 2013 Toyota 4-Runner. Emergency responders rushed him to Erie County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Mr. Luby tragically passed away while receiving treatment. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the 4-Runner was unharmed. The New York State Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
