HAMMOND — The community is grieving the tragic loss of Javan Myers, 26, who was fatally injured in a shooting that also left four others wounded, including a young child, at a townhome complex on Willow Villa Road off Old Baton Rouge Highway. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., has shaken the Hammond area and left friends, family, and neighbors struggling to process the devastating events of that day.
According to authorities, five people were struck during the shooting. Myers succumbed to his injuries, while a 25-year-old man remains hospitalized in serious condition. A 22-year-old woman and a 4-year-old boy were treated and released, and the suspect, 30-year-old Marquanvius Jones, was also injured during the confrontation. Jones is facing multiple charges, including 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation indicates that the incident escalated from an argument that began over a request for a ride. While detectives continue to work through the details, it has been reported that Jones fired into a crowd and Myers returned fire.
