The community of Natchitoches Parish and beyond is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Dejuan D. Dickerson, 25, of Highland Park, Michigan, whose life was tragically cut short on February 12, 2026. What began as an ordinary afternoon ended in unimaginable sorrow along Interstate 49, leaving family, friends, and loved ones grieving a young man gone far too soon.

According to authorities, at approximately 1:39 p.m., troopers with  Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-49 near Mile Post 140 in . The initial investigation revealed that a 2025 Freightliner had come to a stop on the southbound shoulder due to a flat tire. Dejuan, the driver of the vehicle, was outside on the shoulder attempting to change the tire when tragedy struck.

For reasons still under investigation, a southbound 2023 Freightliner drifted onto the shoulder, striking the parked vehicle and impacting Dejuan. Despite the swift response of first responders, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained as part of the ongoing investigation, and charges are pending.

But beyond the details of the accident report is the story of a life — a son, a friend, a brother, and a young man with dreams still unfolding.

At just 25 years old, Dejuan stood at the threshold of possibility.
